Proverbs 23:25 So give your parents joy!

Out of gratitude, kids ought to give back to their parents through obedience, service to them, love! This gladdens the heart of God.

10 Little Things

  • These can be done in any order
  • You might not get through all 10 things
  • Engage the children as much as you are able to (we gear the lessons for 3 year olds…so if you have children who are a little younger, they might just be ready to “listen in”)

Ten Little things to do: “I Love Mommy”

1.            Free time

2.            Story Time

All about mommy — Highlight the pictures and relationship between mother and child in the book while reading it… in simple words…

Mommy Mine  picture book… read book to kids  for story time. I’ve included  a set of books about mommys from the public library (please take care to see that they are ALL returned so that I don’t have to pay a fine) feel free to read the other books to the kids too..if they seem to like it…take the time to keep reading.

3.            Theme Game/Something Physical:

This activity is from:

Mother’s Day Activity – Rhyme with Actions – Who Tucks Me In? Read through this little rhyme with the children, showing them how to do the actions (you can find the actions and poem described at the above link)

4.            Simple Music

MOMMY ( sung to BINGO) (DO the actions for each letter.. M is two arms making the shape of an M over your head, O is two arms with hands joined over your head and Y is two arms outstreached beside your head  in a Y shape. Repeat this for each time you sing MOMMY.)

There is lady in our house and Mommy is her name-o
MOMMY and mommy is her name-o
I love her and she loves me and mommy is her name –o
MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY and mommy is her name-o
I think my mom is the best and mommy is her name-o
MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY and mommy is her name-o

5.            Snacks

Choose some of the snacks in the snack cupboard and place them in the little cups. Make sure the children wash their hands before eating.
6.            Bible memory

Psalm 119:33 33 Teach me, O LORD, to follow your directions;

Have the kids walk the path marked with arrows made our of construction paper marked out on the floor… each arrow will be one word of the verse. Have the kids walk through the path saying each word as they  go… they will need to be prompted as they cant read or even speak that well sometimes… just repeating it over and over is the most important. And continue it until they have lost interest.

7.            Craft: Butterfly magnet clothespin

  • Clothespins

White coffee filters ( with poem printed on the sides where the wings are going to be)

  • Stickers
  • Felt markers

  • Prewrite the names of each child on the back of the clothes pins. There will already be a magnet on the back so write it somewhere under that.
  • Have the kids colour the coffee filter with markers and decorate with stickers.
  • Place the coffee filters in the clothes pins by scrunching up the middle and sliding the coffee filter through till it reaches the middle and looks like a butterfly.  The poem should also show on the wings…
  • (butterfly, butterfly, fly to my mother, whisper so soflty, how much I love her.)

8.                   Prayer: Pray for the kids:

“I pray this blessing over each one of you.

Each of you is precious in God’s sight.

God sees you every minute of every day and he loves you.

I pray that you will come to know and love Jesus with all your heart for all your days.
May the Lord bless you and protect you.

May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.

May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.

9.          Coloring Pages

Little coloring sheet that turns into a book about mommy.

10.         Clean up – have the children join you in cleaning up (you can also tie this time into talking about what moms do every day!)
